Bio

Kimberly Johnson is a dedicated educator whose commitment to nurturing young minds spans over three decades.  She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education from Lee University in Cleveland, Tennessee. Kimberly began her professional journey as a fourth-grade teacher in Wicomico County while pursuing her master’s degree in education, which she completed in 1995 from Salisbury University. After becoming a reading specialist, Kimberly’s love for her students seamlessly transitioned into a deep dedication to supporting educators. She became an advocate for professional development, empowering her peers with the resources and skills needed to excel. Spending the next 27 years in the realm of professional learning, she first worked as a Schools for Success Facilitator, designing and implementing training across various subject areas for elementary schools. Later, transitioning into the role of literacy professional development coach, Kimberly worked to transform literacy instruction until her recent retirement after a 31-year career in education for Wicomico County.

Throughout her career in education, Kimberly has focused on creating collaborative environments where educators can share best practices and grow together. Her commitment to fostering a supportive community has not only enhanced the learning experiences of students but has also strengthened the teaching profession as a whole, reflecting her belief that empowered educators lead to empowered learners. Her passion for education remains evident in her continuous efforts to uplift those around her, ensuring that every educator feels equipped and inspired to make a lasting impact in their own classrooms. With certifications in Elementary Education, Early Childhood Education, Reading Specialist, and ESOL Pre-K-12, as well as training in Science of Reading LETRS, and over 31 years in education, Kimberly is honored to join the literacy team at the School Success Center at the University of Delaware.
