Institute Goal and Objectives
Overarching Goal: building-level coaches will develop the knowledge, skills, and tools needed to lead high-impact, standards-aligned coaching practices that are directly connected to school improvement goals, centered on student learning data, and designed to elevate instructional quality and student outcomes across their schools.
Tuesday, August 12:
Objective 1: Participants will learn the core principles of student-centered coaching and how to implement them by practicing aspects of coaching cycles that begin with student learning goals, incorporate formative assessment data, and support instructional shifts aligned to school improvement priorities.
Objective 2: Align Coaching to School Success Plans (SSPs): Participant coaches will learn how to collaborate with school leaders to co-develop coaching plans that are explicitly aligned with their school’s SSP priorities. Coaches will learn how to anchor their support in instructional goals that directly advance the school’s targeted student outcomes.
Wednesday, August 13
Objective 3: Facilitate Standards-Based Instructional Goal Setting: Participant coaches will learn to guide teachers in setting clear, measurable instructional goals that are aligned to grade-level content standards and informed by student learning data.
Objective 4: Use Daily Student Learning Data to Inform Instruction: Participant coaches will develop strategies to help teachers collect and analyze daily student learning data (e.g., exit tickets, student work samples) and use that data to adjust instruction in real time. SSC will provide tools and protocols to support this practice during and after the institute.
Thursday, August 14
Objective 5: Implement High-Impact Coaching Cycles: Participant coaches will strengthen their ability to lead complete coaching cycles—including pre-conferences, observations, and debriefs—focused on helping teachers improve instructional practice aligned to standards-based goals. SSC will model and support these practices during the institute.
