Addressing Executive Function to Support Student Writing
March 26, 2026 | 7:00 – 8:00 p.m. EST
FREE OF CHARGE
How do we help students develop writing proficiency when writing can feel like such a chore? In this webinar, we’ll learn about and unpack the executive functions that play a role in student writing and appear at all stages of the writing process. We’ll discuss how they develop over time, and what we can expect at various ages and grade levels. Participants will come away with developmentally appropriate, evidence-based strategies for planning effective writing instruction, motivating struggling writers, and delivering specific, measurable feedback to their students. By the end of this session, participants will be able to make a plan to address executive function and support students at each stage of the writing process.
About the SSC Research to Practice Webinar Series
The Research to Practice Series features professional development seminars led by staff members of the School Success Center, a unit within the College of Education and Human Development at the University of Delaware. The Research to Practice Series fosters and promotes all educators as instructional leaders by synthesizing and practicing research and evidence-based practices, allowing for immediate classroom and school application.
Our Presenters: Dr. Jaime True Daley and Alexis Elkins

Jaime True Daley believes everybody can and everyone belongs. To that aim, she serves as an Assistant Director at the School Success Center, partnering with districts to establish strong multi-tiered systems with strategic, intensive, and specially-designed instruction. She earned her Doctorate in Special Education from Johns Hopkins University in 2016 and began at UD in 2017 developing and teaching graduate courses for the M.Ed. in Exceptional Children and Youth. Prior to joining UD, she served in various capacities across PK-12 settings, achieving Teacher of the Year and National Board Certification. She enjoys all things outdoors, especially playing golf with her husband and seashell seeking with her family.

Alexis joined the literacy team at the School Success Center after a decade in the classroom, where she served in various roles, including classroom teacher, curriculum developer, and literacy instructional strategist. She also served as the literacy program director for a nonprofit in Wilmington, DE, working to incorporate literacy as a tool for Social Emotional Learning during out-of-school time.
Driven by the belief that literacy is a human right and an integral part of educational equity, Alexis works with school leaders and practitioners to ensure educators are equipped with knowledge of the Science of Reading and Writing. She collaborates with school teams to refine their use of evidence-based practices to improve student literacy achievement.
