About the SSC Research to Practice Webinar Series
The Research to Practice Series features professional development seminars led by staff members of the School Success Center, a unit within the College of Education and Human Development at the University of Delaware. The Research to Practice Series fosters and promotes all educators as instructional leaders by synthesizing and applying research and evidence-based practices, enabling immediate classroom and school application.
Our Presenters: Alexis Elkins and Kelly Donovan

Alexis joined the literacy team at the School Success Center after a decade in the classroom, where she served in roles such as classroom teacher, curriculum developer, and literacy instructional strategist. She also served as the literacy program director for a nonprofit in Wilmington, DE, working to incorporate literacy as a tool for Social Emotional Learning during out of school time.
Alexis is driven by the belief that literacy is a human right and an integral piece of educational equity. She works with school leaders and practitioners to ensure that educators are equipped with the knowledge of the Science of Reading and Writing. She works collaboratively with school teams to refine their use of evidence based practices in order to improve student literacy achievement.

Kelly Donovan is a dedicated educator with over 25 years of experience in the field. As a Senior School Improvement Specialist at the University of Delaware’s School Success Center (SSC), she coaches K-12 teachers across several states. Kelly specializes in helping educators implement evidence-based instruction that aligns with the science of reading and writing. Her work focuses on the use of high-quality instructional materials (HQIM) to improve student outcomes. Before joining the SSC, Kelly spent 14 years as an elementary teacher and three years as a middle school ELA teacher in Delaware public schools.
