Bio

After receiving a BS in Mathematics and a MA in Mathematics Education from Brigham Young University, Kelly worked as a college mathematics teacher in Colorado. In 2020, she received her PhD in Mathematics Education from UD. Over the past 12 years, she taught a variety of remedial mathematics, mathematics, and mathematics education courses. She also has experience working on various research projects in primary and secondary mathematics classrooms, including Harvard’s MQI and Dr. Amanda Jansen’s SMILES projects. She has publications in mathematics education and has presented at multiple research conferences. Her dissertation examined the inclusiveness of language and the cognitive demand of enacted mathematics lessons. She is passionate about positioning all students (and teachers) as competent in mathematics (and mathematics teaching), which is why she was drawn to working at the SSC. She enjoys working in a place where research can reach students and teachers and make a positive impact. She continues to have opportunities to design research studies, apply for grants, and engage in data collection and analysis for the SSC.
